No there is not a colony of child sex slaves on Mars and I feel really stupid having to say that. I bet NASA did too.

This week NASA had to publicly go on record to deny the existence of child sex slaves on Mars.  Let’s start with a few facts.

  1. The average temperature on the Red Planet is -81º F.
  2. Mars’ atmosphere is 96% carbon dioxide.
  3. Alex Jones is gross.

Jones had a guest on his show that put forth the theory that NASA was collecting missing or kidnapped children and shuttling them off to Mars to create some sort of colony for child trafficking. Now, for most of us, basic common sense tells us that the logistics alone make this impossible, but Jones and his guest are not among us. Robert David Steele, random conspiracy theorist, had a long, rambling, barely coherent, dialogue with Jones on sexual abuse that revealed this belief. Jones, of course, did nothing to stop, correct, or even qualify his statement, only mumbled in agreement.

As humorous as I want to find this, I just can’t. People believe this. People who vote. People who run for office. Jones has a huge cult-like following of faithful adherents who take him as gospel. When these claims are disputed with evidence, these same people will say, “Well, I have my opinion and you have yours.” and then they will walk into your child’s classroom to educate them, they will walk into their offices to make decisions on what those teachers are allowed to teach, they will determine the funding given to the sciences. This is dangerous.

“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.
